Back by popular demand, this is a real treat for all steam enthusiasts. The Port Waratah Coal journey will start in Maitland on route to Newcastle Interchange, Hamilton and Port Waratah before heading west back to Maitland. The return trip will take approximately 3 hours.
Port Waratah excursions are a steam pull/diesel push journey
As you depart Maitland heading east, the steam locomotive will push from the rear, assisted by a heritage diesel engine at the front. As you exit Newcastle Interchange the steam will then pull from the front as you head towards Port Waratah.
